The Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) program trains individuals to work as professionals in UAS operations. The UAS program is intended to prepare students for a fast-growing industry with many civilian applications including agriculture, search and rescue, monitoring environment and wildlife, border security, fire mapping, surveying structures after natural disasters, real estate photography, education, and police surveillance. Students enrolled in this program will learn how to operate both commercially fixed-wing and multi-rotor UAS; therefore, students will be required to obtain their Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Remote Pilot license. Emphasis will be placed on the student’s ability to plan and implement UAS missions to capture data and digital imagery while taking into consideration mission security and the privacy of others. Students will also learn how to process UAS data and digital imagery using GIS, photogrammetry, and digital imagery editing software.
This program offers students the option of completing a Basic Technical Certificate (BTC) focused solely on UAS or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree which includes an emphasis on entrepreneurship. By completing the AAS, students will acquire business knowledge and expertise that could increase their chances of starting a successful new business. It also introduces students to core methods for professional success including network creation, team building, and idea communication.
Through this program, students will have the opportunity to build a professional network and gain an understanding of industry-leading tools that will help them navigate the necessary components of starting a business. Upon completion of this degree, students will be able to apply their knowledge of UAS to build a successful small business and will be eligible for an Academic Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management.
