ATBD 110 Introduction to Collision Repair Safety
(3 Credits, Fall)

The orientation and application of tool safety, shop practices, and shop equipment theories. Industry needs and standards will be addressed. Students will gain knowledge of proper use of equipment, tools, and safety that meet or exceed industry standards. PREREQ: Completion of or placement into ENGL 101 and Unit 1 (or higher) of MATH 095, program orientation, and Auto Body Technology major. COREQ: ATBD 115 and ATBD 125. ATBD 115 Welding for Collision Repair
(3 Credits, Fall)

This course is an introduction to welding mild steel and automotive sheet metals for collision repair. Students will perform basic welding processes and techniques including the application of mild steel, wire feed welding, automotive sheet metals, basic oxyacetylene, MIG welding, and plasma air arc cutting. Students will gain knowledge of proper use of equipment, tools, and safety that meet or exceed industry standards. PREREQ: Program orientation and Auto Body Technology major. COREQ: ATBD 110 and ATBD 125. (0 lecture hours, 8 lab hours, 3 credits)

ATBD 125 Basic Collision Repair
(6 Credits, Fall)

This course covers the practical application and basic theory of metal finishing and minor body repair including straightening and prepping sheet metals, removal and installation of necessary trim and hardware to facilitate repair procedures, proper use of plastic fillers, abrasives, sanding techniques, and air tools. Students will learn detailing and polishing fundamentals including that of pre-wash, paint defect identification, exterior polishing, interior renovation, environmental hazards, and proper use of detailing equipment. Students will gain knowledge of general safety and health practices, including the use of chemicals, detailing products, and personal protection equipment that meets or exceeds industry standards. PREREQ: Program orientation and Auto Body Technology major. COREQ: ATBD 110 and ATBD 115. (1 lecture hours, 14 lab hours, 6 credits)

ATBD 135 Estimating for Collision Repair
(6 Credits, Spring)

This course covers the estimating process, from hand written to electronic estimating, basic measuring systems, computerized measuring systems, and estimating collision damage and painted surfaces. Students will learn to accurately identify vehicle make and model, options, and trim packages, as well as how to assess damage and determine the repair techniques and processes that will be required. Students will also learn how to set up, measure, and read a body dimension sheet; and to put together a repair plan and parts list. PREREQ: ATBD 110, ATBD 115, and ATBD 125. COREQ: ATBD 145. (1 lecture hours, 14 lab hours, 6 credits)

ATBD 145 Intermediate Collision Repair
(6 Credits, Spring)

This course provides an understanding of primer guns and their functions, primers and undercoats, basic sanding techniques, and preparation of a variety of surfaces for collision damage repair. Students will use learned skills in the repair of minor collision damage, frame bench repair techniques, panel replacement, and plastic repair. PREREQ: ATBD 110, ATBD 115, and ATBD 125. COREQ: ATBD 135. (1 lecture hours, 14 lab hours, 6 credits)

ATBD 215 Refinishing for Collision Repair
(6 Credits, Fall)

This course is designed to provide the learner the opportunity to identify tools, components, safety practices, and processes used in the advanced levels of collision repair. Students who successfully complete this course will possess advanced knowledge of prep and painting and be able to produce industry level results in the following areas: painting, color matching, blending, color sanding, polishing, and shading. PREREQ: ATBD 135 and ATBD 145. COREQ: ATBD 235. (1 lecture hours, 14 lab hours, 6 credits)

ATBD 235 Advanced Collision Repair and Refinishing
(6 Credits, Fall)

This course is designed to provide the learner the opportunity to identify tools, components, safety practices, and processes used in the advanced levels of collision repair and refinishing. The successful completer will apply their newly developed skills in the areas of collision damage repair, welding or gluing of panel replacement, uni-body collision repair, automotive electrical systems and diagnosis, custom refinishing, and advanced refinishing techniques. PREREQ: ATBD 135 and ATBD 145. COREQ: ATBD 215. (1 lecture hours, 14 lab hours, 6 credits)

ATBD 260 Auto Body Cooperative
(12 Credits, Spring)

Coursework with local dealerships and independent shops enables students to develop the interpersonal and job-readiness skills needed to be successful in the auto body/collision repair field. PREREQ: ATBD 215 and ATBD 235. (3 lecture hours, 27 lab hours, 12 credits)
