FIRE 110 Physical Fitness for Firefighters may be repeated for up to three credits and is recommended to fulfill any remaining elective credits needed to complete this program.

The Associate of Arts degree offers two options for completion:
- Fire Service Technology Option 1 requires completion of FIRE 101 Fire Fighter, which involves classroom instruction, hands-on demonstrations, and participation in live burns. Additionally, upon successful completion of FIRE 101, students are afforded an opportunity to take the IFSAC Firefighter I exam, proctored by Idaho Fire Science Technology.
- Fire Service Technology Option 2 provides a classroom learning experience for students of all ages and abilities without skills manipulation or live burn participation.

The option to take FIRE 160, FIRE 165, and FIRE 170 instead of FIRE 290 is only available to students who choose to complete Fire Service Technology Option 1 and successfully pass FIRE 101. Please refer to the Work Experience course descriptions for further information. (Students who choose to complete Fire Service Technology Option 2 will need to take FIRE 290.)

Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Describe the organizational structure and history of the fire service, explain its professional culture, apply standard operating procedures in practical scenarios, analyze how organizational and cultural factors influence operations, and evaluate safety strategies within the fire service industry.
- Describe the principles of fire behavior, explain the relationship between fire behavior and building construction, apply knowledge of fire protection systems, tools, equipment, and tactics in practical scenarios, analyze how these factors interact during fire suppression operations, and evaluate tactical decisions to enhance safety and effectiveness.
- Analyze and apply legal and regulatory frameworks governing fire department operations to ensure compliance and accountability as a public organization. This includes evaluating statutory responsibilities, interpreting relevant codes and standards, and assessing the impact of these requirements on organizational decision-making and public safety outcomes.
- Describe the principles of fire prevention and safety, explain their role in mission readiness, apply prevention strategies and safety protocols in practical scenarios, analyze risk factors that impact operational effectiveness, and evaluate methods for improving fire prevention and safety practices within the fire service.
- Describe the physical standards required in the fire service, explain their importance for operational readiness, apply fitness principles to meet these standards, and evaluate their own physical performance to ensure compliance with industry requirements.
