Program Description

The Medical Assistant program prepares students for employment as medical assistants. Courses will include best practices and theory, laboratory instruction, and a real-world supervised externship in physician’s offices, healthcare clinics, and hospitals.

The role of the medical assistant is to assist the physician and other professionals in managing the care of clients. Medical assistants are responsible for performing duties in the areas of office management, patient care, and collecting and processing laboratory specimens. Medical assistants work under the direct supervision of a physician or other designated professional.

The Medical Assistant program offers students entry into the program at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Both program entry points will require hybrid coursework (in-person and online courses) and will award students with either an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree or an Intermediate Technical Certificate (ITC). Additionally, students who complete the Medical Assistant AAS will also be eligible for a Basic Technical Certificate (BTC) in Medical Administrative Support.
