Ideally, these courses should be completed prior to submitting a program application.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Uphold the highest standard of sterile technique.
  • Understand the limitations and duties of the scope of practice for surgical technologists.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology and be able to apply that knowledge in a surgical setting.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team before, during, and after a procedure.
  • Possess solid comprehension of surgical instrumentation and equipment and their uses.
  • Understand and use appropriate medical terminology.
  • Appropriately handle and dispose of sharps and infectious waste.
  • Recognize the value of teamwork and be able to function well in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of surgical pharmacology and anesthesia.
  • Synthesize moral and ethical reasoning with emerging issues in healthcare as well as advances in surgical procedures, techniques, and technologies.
